F.A.Q. (Frequently Asked Questions)

Where do the ABC scholars live?

ABC of Westport owns a house on North Avenue about 6/10 of a mile north of Staples High School. Our scholars live there, along with our Resident Directors.

How are the scholars selected?

There is a national ABC organization that recruits talented students of color from across the country. The national office screens applicants and forwards promising applications to us. We conduct a recruiting and interview process every spring, during which we invite selected applicants and their families to Westport.

Where are the Westport scholars' homes?

Scholars in ABC of Westport's program have come from the New York City area, Pennsylvania, Los Angeles and Florida.

What do the scholars do on weekends?

Just like most high school students, the scholars have very full schedules including sports, theater, school clubs, community service, church groups, etc., as well as just hanging out with their friends. In addition, each scholar has a Westport "host family." The scholar spends every Sunday and one full weekend each month with the host family, doing whatever that family normally does.
