A Better Chance of Westport depends on volunteers from the community for its operations. Our scholars count on them. Can we count on you?
There are lots of ways to get involved.
Our scholars spend every Sunday, and one full weekend each month, with “host families” who volunteer their hospitality as a “home away from home”. It’s a chance for scholars to relax, study, spend time as another member of the family or just hang. Host family relationships can become very close and persist long after a scholar graduates.
Equally important are “substitute host families” who step in when a host family simply can’t fulfill its commitment to be available to a scholar for a week or two.
Being a volunteer driver is an easy way to spend some time with the scholars. Everything from getting home after sports practice to going to the airport for holiday travel.
If you have a special interest, skill or expertise you would be willing to share, please let us know about it. ABC scholars have spent time with Westport residents who volunteered: learning how to play a musical instrument, for example, or to write a short story.
The ABC of Westport Board runs a number of committees responsible for the wide variety of activities that keep the program running. Committee membership is open to the community. You don’t need to be a Board member to help. Let us know if you’re interested.
Or, you may be interested in becoming a Board member. We’re always looking for people interested in ABC, especially folks who can bring some needed expertise. Write and let us know what you would like to do.
Each year, ABC of Westport raises a large portion of its annual operating budget with a special fund-raiser. The “ABC of Westport Dream Event” offers attendees their own chances to experience new events and activities as it raises money for the program. Volunteer to help with logistics, marketing and everything else it takes to ensure 300+ people have a great time!
